Local governments in Peru passed a landmark ordinance granting legal rights to Amazonian stingless bees. The law recognizes their right to exist, survive, and flourish in their natural ecosystem. It highlights the importance of pollinators to the Amazon rainforest and Indigenous livelihoods.

The Close Quarter Battle Carbine is a compact firearm developed under the Indigenous Design, Development and Manufacturing initiative. It was designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in Pune, a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The Ministry of Defence signed contracts worth ₹4,666 crore for these carbines. Manufacturing is carried out by Bharat Forge Limited.

Candida auris is a multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen that has spread globally. It can cause severe invasive infections such as bloodstream infections and meningitis and affects approximately 6.5 million people annually.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence announced that the nuclear-capable Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile system has entered active service. The missile has a range between 500 and 5,500 kilometres and can attain speeds of up to Mach 10.

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, is leading the project. It is part of Mission Mausam, a ₹2,000 crore programme of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. These stations automatically record rainfall, temperature, humidity, and wind data. The first installations are planned for Delhi starting February 2026.
