The historic Taleju Bhawani Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, is located within Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. On Maha Navami, the temple opened to the public for its rare annual tradition, attracting thousands of devotees. It was constructed in the 16th century by King Mahendra Malla and is closely associated with the Malla dynasty, which ruled the Kathmandu Valley from the 12th to the 18th century. It is a remarkable example of Newar pagoda architecture, featuring a three-tiered roof, elaborately carved eaves and gilded finials.
