Detailed Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have secured passing marks in their 10+2 or an equivalent examination.
  • Minimum Marks (UR/OBC/PWD/NRI): 45% marks in aggregate.
  • Minimum Marks (SC/ST): 40% marks in aggregate.
  • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for UG programs in CLAT.

Detailed Section-Wise Syllabus (120 Marks)

English Language
~22-26 Questions (20%)

Passages derived from contemporary/historically significant fiction & non-fiction. Tests comprehension, inferences, and vocabulary.

Current Affairs & GK
~28-32 Questions (25%)

Passages from news sources. Tests awareness of contemporary events of significance from India and the world, arts/culture, and historical events.

Legal Reasoning
~28-32 Questions (25%)

Passages relating to fact situations or scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions, or moral philosophical enquiries.

Logical Reasoning
~22-26 Questions (20%)

Short passages followed by questions. Identify arguments, draw conclusions, infer what follows, and identify contradictions/flaws.

Quantitative Techniques
~10-14 Questions (10%)

Data interpretation passages/graphs/charts. Derive, infer, and manipulate numerical info using basic Class 10 math (ratios, percentages, algebra).

No. The Consortium explicitly states that no prior knowledge of law is required. The passages will contain all the principles and facts you need. However, being familiar with fundamental legal terms and contemporary legal issues will significantly improve your reading speed and comprehension.

The Consortium reduced the number of questions from 150 to 120 starting CLAT 2024, while keeping the duration at 120 minutes. This was done to make the paper slightly less lengthy, but the passage-based comprehension format remains exactly the same.

No, National Law University Delhi (NLU-D) conducts its own separate entrance examination called the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET). You must fill out a separate form for NLU-D.
